People Against Wylfa-B is proud to announce a new partnership with Friends of the Earth Japan in the campaign to oppose Hitachi’s plans to build two huge nuclear reactors at Wylfa.
To confirm the partnership, Ayumi Fukakusa from Friends of the Earth Japan will be visiting Ynys Môn and Gwynedd between November 18 and 20. During her visit, Ayumi will discuss their campaigning in Japan against exporting Hitachi and Toshiba nuclear technology to Wales and England. She will also explain how their campaign focusses on halting JBIC, Japan Bank for International Cooperation and NEXI, Nippon Export and Investment Insurance finance and insurance for nuclear power projects outside Japan.
On behalf of PAWB, Dr Carl Clowes said:-
“It is very important to remember that almost all of Japan’s nuclear reactors remain shut down since the Fukushima nuclear disaster. In addition, no new nuclear reactors are being built there atall. We are particularly pleased that Friends of the Earth Japan are campaigning hard against exporting such a dangerous, old fashioned and extremely expensive technology.”
Linda Rogers from PAWB added:-
“Although she is young, Ayumi has extensive and rich campaigning experience, and we look forward to learning from her. Her visit will send a clear message to the Westminster and Welsh governments, and Ynys Môn and Gwynedd County Councils that the campaign to stop Hitachi exporting nuclear poison is being fought in two countries on two continents.”
The press will have an opportunity to meet Ayumi at Pontio, Bangor on Monday morning, November 20 at 11.00.
